The Pilates Method is a system of exercises created by Joseph Pilates based on his extensive studies in anatomy and training in yoga, the martial arts, boxing, fencing, and acrobatics. The exercises and equipment were designed by Pilates to systematically and sequentially strengthen and shape the entire body. The training focuses on the balanced development of the body through core strengthening  of the “Powerhouse” muscles (abdomen, lower back, buttocks, and inner thighs), stabilization, flexibility, and awareness to control all movement.

Pilates training is for men and women of all ages and backgrounds who want to increase strength and suppleness, improve fitness, move gracefully, and maintain good posture. It promotes physical harmony, provides an energizing workout, and is effective in preventing and healing injuries.   The results are truly amazing!


Our instructors are fully certified in Pilates with over 15 years teaching experience.  After graduating from U.C. Berkeley, the founder of RIverside Pilates studied the Pilates method at Power Pilates, and continued her studies with Pilates Elder, Kathy Grant.
